My first design for the year is this 90th birthday card made at the special request of a customer.  My starting point was the background designer series paper taken from the Attic Boutique paper pack (now retired) and the current Retro sketches challenge.  The sentiment is from the One in a Million Stamp Set and the butterflies which I have hand coloured are from the Kindness Matters Stamp Set.

A goal in 2013 is to continue to develop my skill in decorating the inside of the card to match - something I didn't do very often til now.

It felt good to get back into the swing of things with this project after having some time away from crafting due to the busy holiday session.

If you have any questions about this card, or any other project featured here on my blog, I'd love to hear from you.  Thank you for stopping by!

First challenge for 2013

January 2, 2013

As soon as I saw this week's sketch challenge at Retro Sketches I knew it would be the perfect layout to showcase the butterflies from Stampin' Up!'s Kindness Matters Stamp Set. Here I've stamped the butterflies in StazOn Jet Black Ink and coloured with blender pen in a mix of Island Indigo, Tempting Turquoise and Pool Party Blue - I'm loving blue at the moment!  The paper piercing guide was so handy for helping to get those butterfly trails just right.

Retro Sketches #33

October 15, 2012

I thought the current Paper Players Sketch Challenge provided a great layout for featuring the butterflies from Stampin' Up!'s Kindness Matters Stamp Set.

I've created a 'shadow box' style frame here for the Soft Suede butterflies which have been coloured with blender pen in shades of Sahara Sand, Daffodil Delight and Pool Party.  Each butterfly has been handcut and raised under the body with a little dimensional.

My colour palette was guided by the piece of Attic Boutique Designer Series Paper (now retired) that I've used here in my background.

I stuck with the circle as my 'any shape', layering the centre circle high up on the backing circle to create a small round tag look.

The Paper Players #114

September 28, 2012

A couple of months back I created a bunch of gift tags using bits and pieces from my large scrap paper collection.  Today I pulled the scrap paper box out again and created this pretty tag using my brand new 'Kindness Matters' Stampin' Up! Stamp Set.  The butterflies were individually hand cut out and coloured using Watercolour Crayons and Blender pen on Whisper White Card Stock.  The image below shows a little bit of the layering.

The design layout was based on the current Freshly Made Sketch Challenge.
