In Class - January 2014

Today's class was jam packed with techniques.  I had some special requests for masking and brayering and so created the following projects to teach in our first class back for the year.

As a card artist there is something so fulfilling about taking a whisper white piece of card and adding your own colouring to create a striking feature.  That was what we explored here in this design.  I taught participants to use the brayer to layer colours to create a graduating effect, in this instance a mock sunset.  We did a little masking with a 1/2 circle shape to create our setting sun.  The lion, from the current Zoo Review Stamp Set, was coloured in blender pens which allowed participants to further practice some colouring techniques demonstrated in from our last class.

This second project allowed me to demonstrate masking off the featured flower to softly layer on some En Francais background stamp script.  The centre panel is watercoloured which again gave participants the chance to practice more of the colouring techniques they saw in action last class.  I wish I could take sole credit for the layout of this card but truth is I was greatly inspired by fellow SU demonstrator Carli Ambrose for this one.

Considering how technique heavy the previous two designs were I was hesitant to also add this project to today's mix. However, the looming pressure of the upcoming class made me a little creatively blocked.  I just couldn't seem to make an alternate design I liked nearly as much that helped me teach the use of brayer to make a background paper.  So we went with it and consequently class ran a little over time... apologies ladies!  I think we will go a little more back to basics to give us a chance to recover in our next class lol x

Here we used the emboss resist technique to create the En Francais background.  Masking was again used to divide off the top of the featured tag.  Then we used the resist emboss technique here also to highlight this section.  The wording is from the Yippee Skippee Stamp set and we have spot embossed the word 'happy' in gold embossing powder.  To finish we added a Very Vintage Designer Button and a little banner featuring a sentiment from our Teeny Tiny Sentments kit.

My next class will be the 8th of February.   If you are interested in attending or finding our more information please don't hesitate to contact me!  Thanks for stopping by x
