June 15, 2020

Hello 2020!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog. If you've been following my work for a while then you may have noticed I've been quiet over here. I have been crafting, but I'm finding it's so much easier to share over on social media than to write blog posts up these days.

My Fancy Friday friends agree and we've decided to shake things up this year! This is our last official 'blog hop'. Moving forward we'll be taking a more modern approach and bringing inspiration to you through Instagram and Facebook @stampinfancyfriday.

Fittingly, the theme for our Fancy Friday challenge today is 'Shake It'. I created this fun interactive slider card complete with a jiggly handmade tassel.

Shaking It with the Stampin' Fancy Friday Design Team

January 31, 2020

Next month we run our very last class series for 2019.  Over the last few years, we've chosen to feature project kits at this time of year as they are fabulous, fast and fun - perfect for a crafting fix during the busy festive season.

This November, we are sharing our twist on the Joy of Giving Tag Kit. This kit comes with ready to assemble cardstock pieces, embellishments, adhesives, a stamp set and ink spot for simple projects that will take your gifts from basic to brilliant this gift-giving season.

While the projects that come with the kits are amazing, the Crafty Carrot Co team enjoy putting their own twist on the kit contents so you get lots of alternate project ideas!

This blog hop is a chance for us to have a little 'warm up' play with the goodies.  For my project, I've created a scrapbook layout.  I've embellished my 12 x 12" Soft Suede base with elements from the kit with a little vanilla card, a retired gold doily and a piece of retired Dashing Along newsprint pattern.

Click the 'next' link below to see what my fellow Crafty Carrot Co friends have created with the Joy of Giving kit. Next is Krista and you are going to love the fun cards she's made!

So you're essentially getting 16 project ideas for the price of 4!  Don't miss out, subscribe to secure your spot today!

Today's hop projects!

Today I'm sharing one project two ways. Here is a simple fast version for those creating cards 'just in time'...

and here is a stepped-up variation for those who have more time up their sleeves - so you are covered no matter what your schedule brings this season!

I chose to feature the Dashing Deer stamp set throughout October.  It is a carryover favourite from last year and is available from the Stampin' Up! annual catalogue.  I can't wait to see how my Crafty Carrot Co friends inspire me to get the most out of this set next month.

Christmas Collection, The Crafty Carrot Co Blog Hop

September 10, 2019

We are sharing ideas for male themed designs today on the Fancy Friday blog hop.

The Sailing Home suite from the new catalogue was an obvious choice for me to feature.  I've been enjoying all things "Sailing Home" this past month as part of the Crafty Carrot Collective (CCCo) August series of online classes.  As a designer with the CCCo, I'd normally not be able to publically share my tutorial design with you. However, as we opened this series up FREE for all to join, I have a rare opportunity to show you my exclusive project from this month!

To make this card, and see many more 'Sailing Home' project ideas, head on over to the Sailing Home Facebook group today!  Once you've joined, you'll find this detailed video tutorial, and more, to watch at your leisure.

And of course, follow this blog hop by clicking the 'next' button below to see what 'For the Men' inspiration my amazingly talented Artisan award-winning Fancy Friday friends have come up with for you!  Next up is the fabulous Krista Frattin

For the Men, Fancy Friday Blog Hop

August 30, 2019

I'm always on the look out for ways to put designer series papers (dsp) to good use. The right pattern, in the right layout, can create the perfect base for deceptively quick to put together card.

This layout here for instance, would work with any of those bigger, bolder patterns in your stash.  It really showcases the beautiful imagery in the papers, while a few simple embellishments and a single embossed sentiment give the maker a well-deserved sense of creative accomplishment!

I'm sharing this project today for the Let's Get Hopping Blog Hop. It's our challenge this month to inspire you to pull out your stash of retired dsp and put them to good use. Click the 'next' link below to visit  Linda's blog for more ideas to do just that!

Today's hop project
Our monthly blog hops give us a chance to 'warm up' with the focus products before creating our exclusive class designs.  My hop project today was inspired by fellow Crafty Carrot tutor, the very talented, Cindy Schuster.  I just LOVE the unexpected colour combo and layout she created sometime ago *HERE*.  I couldn't resist creating my own variation with the Daisy Lane set to share with you all.  It's a great example of how you can draw inspiration from your favourite floral projects to create something new!

For more fun ideas using this set, click the 'next' button below to see what the amazing Krista Frattin has made.  Would you believe she's gone festive with this pretty blossom?!  Love her out-of-the-box take on this set and I'm sure you will too!

Daisy Lane, The Crafty Carrot Co

August 13, 2019

Today I'm sharing a sympathy card project featuring the Painted Glass stamp set.

I've kept to neutral, muted colours and decorated simply with a flower made using the Botanical Tags die.  To achieve the 'inlaid' multi-tone effect on the flower, I cut the die in both black and white card. Then I stuck the white flower outline to the Sahara Sand label before inlaying the black fill pieces.

Be inspired with lots of ideas for this sketch layout over at this week's TGIF Challenge blog.

Painted Glass Sympathy Card

July 19, 2019

Sometimes we all need someone to simply be there, not to fix anything in particular, but just to let us feel we are supported and cared about.  The Let's Get Hopping team are sharing card designs today to inspire you to send some love to someone you know who may be facing one of life's many rough patches.

I've pulled out some retired Stampin' Up! favourites for my project today.

Supplies
Stamps: Petal Palette, Part of the Story
Card: Whisper White
Paper:  Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper (retired)
Ink: Pool Party, Lemon Lime Twist, Memento Tuxedo Black, Basic Gray
Accessories & Tools:  Stampin' Sponge, Big Shot, Petals and More Thinlets, Stitched Rectangle Framelits, Berry Burst Finely Woven Ribbon, Pool Party Stampin' Blends, Pool Party and Silver Bakers Twine
Adhesives: Tombow Multi-purpose Glue, Stampin' Dimensionals, Double sided tape or SNAIL, Tear'n'Tape

I have all these gorgeous patterned papers that are just calling out to be made into projects.  This Fresh Florals pattern is so beautiful.  I decided to modify it a little though, sponging over the white background with some pool party for a softer look.  I've included the written instructions for this project below in case you want to make it along with me!

Step by Step

  1. Sponge pool party ink onto patterned panel 149 x 101mm.  Attach to front of folded white card base 149 x 202mm.
  2. Die cut whisper white rectangle 42mm wide.  Trim off one side.  Stamp sentiment in gray.  Add strip of ribbon to the bottom with Tear'n'Tape.  Attach to card front.
  3. Stamp leaf detail in lime on white.  Fussy cut and glue.
  4. Add a strip of Tear'n'Tape to attach some loops of twine over the leaves.
  5. Stamp bird in black ink on white card.  Add colour with Stampin' Blend markers.  Cut with coordinating die. Attach with dimensionals over the place where the twine is attached.

Share some love with someone you know today! Click the next link below to continue the hop for more inspiration with the fabulous Nina King McMillan
