This weekend, a delightful friend of mine is celebrating her 40th birthday — such a special milestone! Of course, I had to make a card just for her.

The colour palette was inspired by the tiniest detail — a little butterfly I fussy cut from a scrap of DSP in my stash. Its coral and yellow tones guided the rest of the design.

For the layout, I turned to this week’s sketch at Freshly Made Sketches. I loved the split focal point in the sketch, but in the end I kept my circle solid. I toyed with the idea of running the ‘happy birthday’ banner through the middle, but it just didn’t feel like my vibe. Instead, the solid circle gave a perfect base for the '40' and stamped foliage elements.

Here’s what I used:

  • Ranunculus Romance: subtle background texture in Petal Pink

  • Number of Years: bold “40” sentiment

  • Sending Smiles: flower

  • Butterfly Basics: leaf

  • Plus that little DSP butterfly that started it all!

It was fun to combine these retired favourites into a card that feels bright, fresh, and celebratory. Most of all, I love that it was made for someone so special — happy 40th, my beautiful friend!

I'm still playing with the Kimono Kids Stamp Set (now retired) and some beautiful authentic Japanese papers I've had for a long time.  This design was inspired by the current layout challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  Loving the touches of gold in this particular paper pattern.

I made this card this evening for two challenges - the Freshly Made Sketch #73 and The Paper Players
'bows and buttons for baby' theme.  I've based my colours around a cut-off piece of Attic Boutique Designer Series paper in pool party.  The pattern works in nicely with the die cut paper doily.  The background paper is a textured piece of pool party card and the stamped image comes from the 'Happy You' stamp set by Stampin' Up! and the sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Banners set.

I've been looking forward to creating a card with this pretty red and vanilla DSP from the Everyday Enchantment Paper pack.  I chose to add black to the mix for a sophisticated look.  The central image is from the matching Fresh Vintage Stamp Set which just retired last month.  I've coloured this in Poppy Parade Red and Black to match.  The 'best wishes' sentiment is from Petite Pairs Stamp Set.

Some time ago whilst trawling the web I came across this really striking card by Monica Gale.  I just adore the colour combination and way the hydrangea head from last year's 'Because I Care' stamp set lends itself perfectly to being coloured.

The Fox and Friends Stamp set is by far my favourite for creating cute children's cards.  This birthday card was inspired by the current Freshly Made Sketches 'Seeing Spots' challenge (see sketch below).

I'm loving this colour combination of Baja Breeze Blue and So Saffron Yellow with touches of Poppy Parade Red and Chocolate Chip Brown.

With all the pretty colours and imagery on this design I didn't think the card needed too much more by way of embellishments.   I felt adding a little red button by the sentiment was a great yet still simple way to complete the design.

I received my free Sale-a-bration Elementary Elegance Set last month and have been looking forward to playing with these pretty stamps.  I've combined them here with one of the gorgeous Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Papers and organdy ribbon (also from the current Sale-a-bration).

This is a sneak peek at one of the projects that will be available in my Class by Correspondence next month.

I've just completed another big job - a set of invitations for a friend's 40th birthday party.  I look forward to sharing pictures with you shortly after the event in March.  This card tonight is inspired by the lovely soft colours chosen for her 'garden' party theme.
