Showing posts with label BY STAMP: Part of My Story. Show all posts

Last week our family was a little under the weather, so creativity felt a bit harder to come by. At times like that, I find it helps to simply play without expectations, and that's exactly how these backgrounds began.

Would you believe that this background started as nothing more than a blank piece of Very Vanilla cardstock?

I really enjoy creating my own patterned paper. For this project, I was inspired by autumn tones, but wanted to give them a fresh twist by letting warm purples take centre stage, with rust and soft mint greens as the accents.

I enjoyed the first background so much that I couldn't resist creating a bonus variation, this time building it over a patterned paper scrap base. This retired Petals and Paisley's paper inspired my colour palette. It's always fun to see how a small change can create a completely different look.

These friendship cards were inspired by several current cardmaking challenges. The Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge encouraged me to incorporate text into my background, which is one of my favourite ways to add subtle layers of interest. The All About Craft Challenge is celebrating friendship, so I chose sentiments featuring the word "friend," while the Festive Friday National Friendship Day challenge inspired the finishing touches—a knotted gold bow, tone-on-tone stamped leaves, and delicate little floral details added to the background to bring everything together.

I'd love to know—which of the two cards is your favourite?

Craft Along With Me

If you'd like to make these cards along with me, I've filmed a bonus craft-along tutorial that will be shared as my August subscriber freebie.

If you'd like to join my crafty community and receive the tutorial, simply add your email address in the sign-up box in the sidebar. I'll send the August freebie directly to your inbox when it's released.

It's my little way of saying thank you for being part of my crafty community, and I hope it inspires you to create your own custom backgrounds in colours you love.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

After finishing my clean and simple speed stamping card, I still had all the supplies sitting out on my desk — leftover patterned paper, ink, ribbon, stamps, and embellishments.

So while the colours and ideas were still fresh in my mind, I decided to create a second version using the same products, but this time in a style that feels much more natural to me — layered, detailed, and a little more embellished.

This bonus card was inspired by the latest sketch from Sunday Stamps Sketch Challenge, and it ended up becoming the perfect opportunity to “step up” the original design.

Building a Layered Floral Background

For this version, I decided on a crumb cake card base and layered a decorative patterned paper panel over the top.

For the stamped focal panel, I kept the floral stamping much simpler than the original card. Instead of creating an all-over stamped background, I used just two flowers, one full-strength stamped image, and one stamped-off image for softer contrast.

This helped create a cleaner focal point while still keeping the soft layered effect I loved from the first card.

Adding Texture, Die Cuts, and Embellishments

I added stamped crumb cake leaves around the flowers and then layered in some die-cut yellow leaves to pull out the softer yellow tones from the striped patterned paper.

Those extra details immediately gave the card more dimension and helped create the more layered style I naturally gravitate toward.

Sometimes we all need someone to simply be there, not to fix anything in particular, but just to let us feel we are supported and cared about.  The Let's Get Hopping team are sharing card designs today to inspire you to send some love to someone you know who may be facing one of life's many rough patches.

I've pulled out some retired Stampin' Up! favourites for my project today.

Supplies
Stamps: Petal Palette, Part of the Story
Card: Whisper White
Paper:  Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper (retired)
Ink: Pool Party, Lemon Lime Twist, Memento Tuxedo Black, Basic Gray
Accessories & Tools:  Stampin' Sponge, Big Shot, Petals and More Thinlets, Stitched Rectangle Framelits, Berry Burst Finely Woven Ribbon, Pool Party Stampin' Blends, Pool Party and Silver Bakers Twine
Adhesives: Tombow Multi-purpose Glue, Stampin' Dimensionals, Double sided tape or SNAIL, Tear'n'Tape

I have all these gorgeous patterned papers that are just calling out to be made into projects.  This Fresh Florals pattern is so beautiful.  I decided to modify it a little though, sponging over the white background with some pool party for a softer look.  I've included the written instructions for this project below in case you want to make it along with me!

Step by Step

  1. Sponge pool party ink onto patterned panel 149 x 101mm.  Attach to front of folded white card base 149 x 202mm.
  2. Die cut whisper white rectangle 42mm wide.  Trim off one side.  Stamp sentiment in gray.  Add strip of ribbon to the bottom with Tear'n'Tape.  Attach to card front.
  3. Stamp leaf detail in lime on white.  Fussy cut and glue.
  4. Add a strip of Tear'n'Tape to attach some loops of twine over the leaves.
  5. Stamp bird in black ink on white card.  Add colour with Stampin' Blend markers.  Cut with coordinating die. Attach with dimensionals over the place where the twine is attached.

Words of Encouragement, Let's Get Hopping #22

July 15, 2019

The Crafty Carrot Co are sharing projects featuring the 'Geared Up Garage' Suite today.  These will be the star of our exclusive online classes next month!

Here at home, we are at the tail end of a long, hot, hectic Summer.  The kids have returned back to school and I'm reigniting my creativity with a little scrapbooking. The imagery in this suite fit wonderfully with this moment during our home renovation.  My husband is a carpenter by trade and is doing most of the work himself.  Our daughter has been fascinated by all the tools and has enjoyed spending time 'working' alongside her Dad.

Documenting this memory was particularly nice for me this week.  Our renovation progress is slow as we are fitting the improvements in around work and financial commitments.  It was reassuring to compare where we were a year ago when these pictures were taken, to where we are at now!

Notice the sentiment "to those who inspire us"?  This comes from the Sale-a-bration 'Part of my Story' stamp set.  Get in touch to learn more about how to this stamp set for FREE this month! The Crafty Carrot Co love a good set of versatile, beautiful sentiments and this set is no exception.  It really compliments and increases the versatility of the Geared Up Garage goodies.
