There's something so satisfying about turning older supplies and leftover scraps into fresh new projects. These cards feature patterned papers that have been sitting in my stash for 14 years ðŸ˜³

For this pair of cards, I pulled out some offcuts of Everyday Enchantment patterned paper from my stash that featured a playful blue background with red spots. The scraps weren't large enough to cover a full card front, so I pieced them together onto cardstock before creating my own custom background.

To add another layer of interest, I stamped solid hot air balloon images from the Above the Clouds stamp set across the panel and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder.

Once the embossing was complete, I blended ink over the entire background, gradually building colour from rich reds at the bottom through pinks and purples before finishing with blue near the top. The finished result reminded me of a colourful sunset sky.

After blending, I used the ironing technique to remove the clear embossing. For this experiment, I placed a piece of Basic White cardstock over the embossed panel before ironing. The transferred embossing created the foundation for a second handmade background with a beautifully distressed appearance.

Although the transferred panel looked quite simple at first, it quickly came to life after I added a little extra stamping and soft ink blending. The imperfect transferred images created a wonderfully textured background that felt completely different from the original while still coordinating perfectly.

The layout for this second card is based on by this week's Freshly Made Sketch challenge.

This experiment has been playing on my mind since I first experimented with Emboss Resist for my Autumn-inspired project back in May. At the time, I noticed that the clear embossing transferred onto the scrap paper I used to protect the project from the iron. I wondered: what would happen if I transferred that pattern onto a piece of cardstock instead?

That simple question led to a fun two-for-one technique, creating two completely different backgrounds from one creative process.

It reminded me that some of the best creative discoveries happen simply by asking, "What if I tried this?"

2 for 1: Sunset Hot Air Balloon Backgrounds with Emboss Resist

In this design I have stamped the pretty flowers from the Stampin' Up! Secret Garden stamp set onto some patterned paper and then cut them out to stick in place on the card front.  I've finished with a strip of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper (retired) in matching Poppy Parade Red and Very Vanilla on the right edge of the card.

I even decorated the inside:

All products Stampin' Up!
Stamps: Secret Garden, One in a Million
Paper: Sahara Sand Card Base, Everyday Enchantment DSP (retired) for the 'large' font pattern along the right, In Colour 2011 DSP for the large flower (Poppy Parade Dots), Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack (Very Vanilla Dots) for the small flower component and a touch of Basic Black card stock for the banner.

Pattern Play #2

This sketch is particularly suited to showcasing a pretty piece of designer series paper.  I loved this design from Everyday Enchantment collection released during the recent Sale-A-Bration.  I added some Island Indigo into the mix of Pool Party and Lucky Limeade as featured in the paper.
A strip of transparent vellum around the bottom panels keeps the design true to the current Freshly Made Sketch challenge and provides a platform for the sentiment and butterfly without taking the focus away from the DSP.  I've finished with a little matching Lucky Limeade organza ribbon around the base.

The sentiment is from the Teeny Tiny Sentiments Stamp Set.

I've been looking forward to creating a card with this pretty red and vanilla DSP from the Everyday Enchantment Paper pack.  I chose to add black to the mix for a sophisticated look.  The central image is from the matching Fresh Vintage Stamp Set which just retired last month.  I've coloured this in Poppy Parade Red and Black to match.  The 'best wishes' sentiment is from Petite Pairs Stamp Set.

Another project featuring the pretty Everyday Enchantment DSP.  The faux bow at the bottom has one of the matching Everyday Enchantment brads at its centre.

The beautiful floral paper makes a nice backdrop for the layered Beautiful Wings Embosslit Butterfly featured.  A piece of linen thread around the centre of the butterfly creates a nice 'body' effect.
The sentiment is from the Friendly Phrases Stamp Set.

The Everyday Enchantment products will no longer be available after the 31st of March.  Please contact me before this time to learn how you can get your hands on these gorgeous supplies for FREE.

I think that all the papers in the Sale-a-bration Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper Pack are just gorgeous.  I couldn't wait to use this particular pattern.

Elegant Birthday

I received my free Sale-a-bration Elementary Elegance Set last month and have been looking forward to playing with these pretty stamps.  I've combined them here with one of the gorgeous Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Papers and organdy ribbon (also from the current Sale-a-bration).

Elementary Elegance

Like the second cupcake challenge design I featured on the blog last month, this card was inspired by just one element of the cupcake builder punch.  In this case it was the cake top which I think makes the most delicious little clouds.  These were the perfect compliment to the gorgeous hot air ballooning Easter bunny in the 'Everybunny' Stamp Set.
