Pieces of the Story, Cake Crazy

 
I love to bake!  Cakes are my absolute weakness, especially chocolate ones.  And birthday's are, of course, the perfect excuse to whip up a batch!  Which is exactly what I did here in the featured photo for this scrapbook layout of my son's birthday.  I was inspired to scrapbook this occasion thanks to the Global Design Project "Cooking, Baking & Making" theme this week.

I used the Cake Crazy stamp set to make this little stamped cake embellishment.  The layering in this set is fun to play with and makes creating multi-coloured images so easy!  I used soft suede for the 'chocolate' cake base and coloured the spots directly on the stamp of the overlapping layering piece with Stampin' Write markers to mimic the look of the m&m's decorating my cupcakes in the included photo.

 
I'm a big fan of creating your own background papers.  This decorative circle was made by stamping the Cake Crazy sentiment over and over again on a whisper white circle (cut using the largest from the layering circles framelits).

Cake Crazy Celebration for the TGIF Challenge

Dear TGIF challenge blog team,

Wishing you a very Happy 2nd Birthday!

Once upon a time, it was such a privilege to serve on your team of talented (and super lovely) designers.  And even though life got too busy to keep up with the design team commitment, I still just love following your journey and playing along where I can.  Your challenges inspire my cardmaking and continue to provide creative motivation to this day!

Now a little about my card.  I have a super clever cake decorating friend who asked me to make her some Kate Spade themed birthday invitations last year.

When I looked at the Cake Crazy stamp set, I thought about her and her gorgeous cake creations.  So I was inspired to make a Cake Crazy card, Kate Spade style.

Cake Crazy, The Crafty Carrot Co Blog Hop

Hi there!  Welcome to the Crafty Carrot Collective Cake Crazy Blog Hop!  This stamp set is our product focus for our global Stampin' Up! customer rewards program next month so we are giving you a little teaser of what we can do with the set. I say 'teaser' because these are not our reward projects – those we save especially for our customer's eyes only in our exclusive Cake Crazy Facebook Group – but they give you a little idea of how fun this product can be!

For my project today, I stamped the cake layers in Memento black, applied clear embossing powder and heat set. Then I used my Watercolor Pencils to draw in some background colour which I washed over with my aqua painter.  The Watercolor Pencils are on our additional, optional recommended shopping list for the month.  As are the Cupcakes & Carousels embellishments, which is where the twine and tassels on this project come from.
