Busy! We are all so busy. Particularly at this, the tail end of the year, and the start of the hectic festive season.

It's the perfect time to simplify, especially with our craft projects! So I've challenged the Let's Get Hopping team to go back to basics and inspire you to create beautiful projects quickly and easily without all the gadgets!

Stamps, ink and paper - with a few pretty embellishments thrown in. That’s it!

For my card, I've gone with a Christmas theme. Very soon I'll need to create a stack of Christmas cards to hand out these holidays! This layout is one that could very easily be mass produced. Just a little patterned paper, some very quick stamping and a scatter of embellishments for wow factor and done!

I craft mostly for myself - it's a form of therapy for me. Because it's a creative outlet I tend to go heavy on the techniques, fussy cutting, colouring and layers. I found going simple a real challenge!

While in Canada earlier this month, I had the pleasure of crafting besides the amazing Krista Frattin (I'm still star struck)! She pumped out beautiful project after beautiful project so fast. When I asked her what her secret was, she confessed she was a lazy stamper. I was not expecting that! Whenever I look at any of her projects I'm totally in love. But after her confession I looked closer - she has a very simple style, employs lots of patterned papers for effect and is clever with layering embellishments. So when I was struggling with this theme I looked to her for inspiration and was drawn to this layout she shared last July *HERE*.

Back to Basics, Let's Get Hopping Round #3

Happy Christmas Cards
I'm busily putting together a stash of Christmas cards to send out. I'm a little behind and needed a bunch more cards to cover everyone on the list. Designer series papers, like this pattern from the This Christmas Specialty pack, are a great tool for quick, detailed, pretty backgrounds. I've heat embossed the Oh, What Fun "Happy Christmas" sentiment in white on watercolour paper squares cut with the Stitched Framelits die. Then I applied layers of Cherry Cobbler ink with an aqua painter.

Layers of silver ribbon, metallic silver foil doilies and some bakers twine complete the design. It was pretty quick to put together, I made a set of 6 in about an hour.

This Christmas, Peaceful Pines, Peace this Christmas, Wondrous Wreath Framelits, Thoughtful Banners, Stampin' Up!, Jennifer Frost

I got into a Christmas card making groove last month in the spirit of the Christmas in July theme. I put together this design for class - which then had to be postponed due to illness, so I suppose it's time for Christmas in August!

I really love the music sheet pattern from the This Christmas patterned specialty paper pack. Here I've matched it with a Peaceful Pines tree decorated with a Peace this Christmas leaves and berries stamp. The 'Joy' comes from the Wondrous Wreath Framelits Die. The sentiment is from the Thoughtful Banners set.

Christmas in July 2016 #4, Christmas Joy

I caught up with some of my wonderful Stampin' Up! team mates yesterday for a little Christmas in July stamping event called a shoebox swap. It was such fun to not only see all their different ideas but to chat away with some like-minded demonstrators whilst putting the projects together! Thanks for the great 'crafternoon' ladies.

I went for a bit of a vintage inspired design for my swap. I tried to keep it simple but I couldn't resist adding the Peace this Christmas pinecones, berries and leaf layers which were fussy cut and put in place behind the tag.

Christmas in July 2016 #3, Tis the Season

This Christmas Specialty designer paper, Peace this Christmas, Oh What Fun, Stampin' Up!, Glassine Gift Bag, Papercraft by Jennifer Frost

The Christmas in July theme continues today with this little collection of projects featuring the 'This Christmas' Suite.

For my first project, I chose to dress up one of the translucent Glassine Gift bags. These are great for quick gift packaging and food safe too - perfect for some sweet Christmas cookies! The Oh, What Fun stamp set had this 'sweet season' wording which I thought was a wonderful fit for a gift bag containing baked goodies! I masked off the little lined section at the top of the stamp and added the pretty flower and berries from the Peace this Christmas set instead.

I decided to make a little clear Tiny Treat Box to match. I lined the bottom of the box with some garden green cardstock, added a little baking paper and inserted the Christmas cookie. I then closed it up with a band of burlap, a metallic gold doily and finished with a little round gift tag.

Lastly, I completed this collection with a Christmas card featuring the Peace This Christmas set. It's the second card I've shared on my blog with this stamp set - you can see the first here.
